How to do it
- 1Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, toes slightly turned out.
- 2Initiate by breaking at the hips and knees simultaneously.
- 3Descend until the hip crease is below the top of the knee — full depth.
- 4Keep your chest up, heels on the ground, and knees tracking over toes.
- 5Drive through your heels to stand, squeezing your glutes at the top.
About this movement
The air squat is the foundation of all squat movements. It builds lower body endurance and mobility, and is used in high-rep conditioning workouts to accumulate leg volume without added load.
